Design Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Design Lead to join our commercial interior design and build company. As the Design Lead, you will be responsible for leading the design team and overseeing the development and execution of commercial interior design projects. You will collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to deliver innovative and high-quality designs that meet clients’ objectives and budgetary requirements. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of commercial interior design principles, and a track record of successfully managing design projects.

Responsibilities:

Lead the Design Team:

Provide leadership and guidance to the design team throughout the project lifecycle.
Foster a collaborative and creative work environment to encourage team members’ professional growth and productivity.
Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members based on their skills and project requirements.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to ensure high-quality work output.

Project Management:

Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to understand project requirements and objectives.
Develop project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation, to ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule.
Manage project budgets and track expenses to ensure profitability.
Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure design concepts are effectively implemented.

Conceptual Design and Development:

Lead the development of design concepts, space planning, and layout for commercial interior projects.
Conduct thorough research on industry trends, materials, and finishes to incorporate innovative and sustainable design solutions.
Create detailed design presentations, including 2D/3D renderings, sketches, and mood boards, to effectively communicate design concepts to clients.

Design Documentation and Coordination:

Prepare comprehensive construction documents, including detailed drawings, specifications, and material selections.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure design intent is effectively communicated and implemented during construction.
Review and approve shop drawings, material samples, and mock-ups to ensure compliance with design standards and project requirements.

Client Relationship Management:

Establish strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and objectives.
Conduct client meetings and presentations to gather feedback and ensure alignment with project goals.
Provide exceptional customer service, address client concerns, and manage expectations throughout the design process.

Quality Assurance:

Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure design deliverables meet established standards and specifications.
Conduct regular design reviews to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in commercial interior design, including experience in a leadership role.
Strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of successful commercial interior design projects.
Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Excellent knowledge of industry standards, building codes, and regulations related to commercial interior design.
Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a creative team.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of sustainable design practices and LEED certification is a plus.
